Turn On or Turn Off in an agent

Wanted to share a story I heard from a friend of mine recently regarding agents giving things away. Well when agents give things away it is not all that bad when it is a closing gift or a lunch or a bottle of wine. But when an agent gives commission money away as part of their “sales Pitch” then you better proceed with caution.

My friend had a listing appointment with this agent in Richmond, VA and the agent as their sales pitch said ” if you use me to list your home and I work with you to purchase your next home I will give you a $1000 credit for your purchase.

Now does this turn you on? or turn you off when you hear that?
Well it turned my friend off completely. Why you say? Well, this is why.

SOME AGENTS IN OUR BUSINESS NEED TO CUT THEIR COMMISSIONS AND SOME CAN ONLY GIVE IT AWAY SINCE THEY DON’T KNOW HOW TO EARN THE BUSINESS.

If within a ten minute listing presentation that agent gave a $1000 away on a separate transaction how do you think that agent is going to protect your most valuable asset when a contract comes in on your home. Maybe it will only take 10 minutes to give away more money (your money in terms of the contract price).
Remember, the listing and the purchase are two separate transactions that need to be completely separated in terms of monies. However, working with the same be a benefit to make sure both transactions go smoothly and seamless to closing.

Right now more than every, agents are giving things away your might want to consider twice about accepting.

Talking about give aways, have you seen interest rates lately. 4.625% for a 30 year fixed rate is insane. I am 43 years old and it has NEVER been that low before. Now if you have a job, good credit and want to move, then go out and buy a home and tell the media to stuff it.
Happy House hunting!
